Asthma


Asthma is a reversible respiratory disease or infection which causes airways of the lungs to block or narrow resulting to breathing difficult, coughing, tightness in chest and wheezing. Asthma is a deadly disease though many people do not acknowledge this fact. However, according to research conducted in United States over the last few decades, millions of people die every year as a result of asthma or asthma related diseases. Asthma can develop in people at any age although it is more prone in the youth and young children.

Asthma is as well hereditary disease. Individuals who have inherited genes which are more sensitive to asthma allergens are more prone to asthma. Asthmatic genes make the individual allergic those allergens such as pollen grains and mold, air pollutants such as perfumes, cigarette smoke, and exposure to cold air.

Symptoms of Asthma

Asthma is characterized by a range of symptoms depending on the severity of the disease. The most common symptom of asthma involves mild experiences which severe episodes during extreme conditions. Nevertheless, asthma sometimes may include frightening and overwhelming attacker which threatens the life of the infected.

One of the most often asthma symptom is breathing difficulties which involves chest tightness. When asthmatic person inhales allergens such as smoke particles during breathing, the particles triggers contraction of the airways muscles and hence block the movement of the air to the respiratory organs which brings about wheezing and coughing. However, regardless of these circumstances, all asthmatic individuals have breathing problems.

Another common and noticeable symptom of asthma is wheezing. Although not all asthmatic people do wheeze, majority depict this symptom. Wheezing occurs as a result of high pitched vibration as the air streams flow through narrowed airways. In most cases, wheezing results to severe coughing due to strains of the muscles surrounding the airways.

High mucus production is another common symptom associated with asthma. Mucus blocks the airways making individuals to have difficulties in sleeping, talking, swallowing and breathing. In fact, asthma makes the normal life of human difficult and uncomfortable and also brings about the risk of suffocation.

Asthma Medications

Asthma has no cure; however, the condition can control and reversed. Asthma has got various medications approaches which include preventive medicines as well as quick relievers. Preventives are used as long term medicinal measures while quick relievers are used to relief patients from asthma attacks.

One of the major medication approaches in asthma is the use of inhalers. Inhalers play significant roles in relieving the severity of asthma in asthmatics. Inhalers are affordable and long-term medication.
